At my first yardsale this year I found this old door for $15. I had no idea what I was going to do with it. I just wanted it. Now, four months later I finally pulled it out of the garage and started working on it.
I started by painting - no sanding, I wanted the paint to look old and chippy. I painted a thin sloppy layer of gray, then yellow, then white.
I gave it a good sanding so the layers of paint would show through. They didn't come through quite like I expected, but I still like it.
At this point I had a few different ideas, and ultimately decided to hang a bunch of empty frames on the door. I already had them all lying around the house. I arranged them on the door and decided what colors to paint them.
Once it was all painted I had to prepare it to hang. The door is solid wood and pretty heavy. So the hubby helped me use hanging wire to hang it. First I marked off where the screws would go on the back of the door.
We then used washers and screws to wrap the wire around.
This is the wire we used.
Be real careful with this step. You don't want a huge door falling off the wall while you're sitting on the couch!
We used my Mom's stud finder to map out the studs in the wall. Some of our anchors just went into the drywall, some of them went into studs. I used chalk to map them out. It's easy to clean and won't leave marks on your wall!
Here it is now! It really brightens up the living room!
I love the chippy edges and the old doorknob! So neat!
I found this old metal tile at Goodwill months ago - I bought just in case I would use it one day. I finally did!
I also had this bowl from Goodwill. I put my little owl candle in it - I think it looks like an owl sitting in front of the moon! So cute!
Here is a sneak peek at my "exotic" project for this Wednesday!
I'll be part of super fun party! Hope you'll stop by and check it out!
Cheers!
